GreyMatterStats 2012 College Football Projected Win Totals and Conference Standings

UPDATED 07/08/2012 – PLEASE NOTE THAT WE HAVE UPDATED SEVERAL PROJECTED TEAM WIN TOTALS AS WELL AS PROJECTED CONFERENCE STANDINGS. WE MAY CHOSE TO DO ONE MORE UPDATE BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS FOR REAL, BUT WE FEEL MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE WITH THIS V.2.0 VERSION, SPECIFICALLY IN REGARDS TO HOW COACHING/PLAYER CHANGES HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED IN CONTRAST TO OUR INITIAL RELEASE IN MAY.

Around this time each year we start preparing our data-sets for the upcoming football season.

There is ALOT of  housekeeping that happens before they finally kick it off for real.

In addition to in depth QC, we look to refine our methodologies across the board, to see if we can be doing something better/smarter.

One of the processes that we have historically done is to project out entire seasons.  Projecting out an entire season helps us to gauge the impact of some of the variables that we adjust for,  such as a new coach or quarterback.

We have never published this data before, but decided to do it this year and wanted to make sure we credit the good people at www.beyondthebets.com (BTB) for the idea to do so.

BTB does a great job of alerting their readers to things such as the early release of Win Totals, and their forum offers informative and useful information as well.  If you are interested in sports betting and haven’t checked BTB out, please do so.

It goes without saying that projecting outcomes for the entire 2012 College Football Season on Memorial Day Weekend, is a very speculative exercise.

That said, sports books have already released Win Totals for some of the teams, and hopefully this information will be helpful.

We enjoy the Football Futures and think that if you pick your spots there seems to be some real value on the board each year.  Additionally, the Futures give you “season long” action and provide easy opportunity to hedge if need be.

And if posting this simply gets people talking about College Football in May, than that is more than alright with us as well.
