Something To Note Regarding Our NFL Week 1 Projected Totals

We wanted to alert our users to the fact that our Projected Totals for Week 1 in the NFL are weighted heavily to the Over.

As of right now, we are projecting 11 Overs, 2 Unders, and 3 pushes for the 16 games.

Obviously this distribution is unusual, especially in light of the fact that over the last 5 years for Week 1 in the NFL, the Under has been the side in 64.6% of the cases.

Over the past five seasons, the average Closing Total for Week 1 in the NFL was 41.2 points/game.  The average Current Total for this week’s games is 40.3 points/game.

While we suspect the oddsmakers’ downward adjustment of the Current Totals is in part due to the fact the Under has been so strong, we also wonder if the new kickoff rule is a contributing factor as well.

Regardless, it is something we will keep an eye on.

We hope you find the information helpful to your Week 1 NFL handicapping.
