Site Feature – Select and Print Games and Its Use In Conjunction With the SHARP Data Mining Tool

Throughout the early part of the season, we will be posting Blog entries that describe some of the features found on our site.

Our first such post details the Select and Print Games application which can be found under the Current Games section for each League.

When we were designing our site, our goal was to provide valuable, timely data along with user friendly tools.

We asked handicappers to provide us a “wish list” of things they would like to see, and hands down, the most requested feature was a simple way to print and sort a snapshot of the current games.

Of the many sites that provide schedule and odds information, we have yet to come across a single one, other than ours, that gives the user the ability to print the data in a structured format, let alone apply user defined filters.

Below you will find an explanation of the features of this tool, as well as a description of how it can be used in conjunction with our SHARP Data Mining application.

Select and Print Games

When first displayed, the function will show all current games by League.

The user then has the option of filtering the report based on the following:

*

Filter Criteria

Current Line – A Min and Max value to be applied to the Current Line

Current Total -A Min and Max value to be applied to the Current Total

Date – A Min and Max value to be applied to the scheduled game date

Time – A Min and Max value to be applied to the scheduled game start time

Please note that multiple filter criteria may be applied.

Action Buttons

Print Preview – Launches the currently selected and sorted display in a window from which to print

  • Please make sure you allow pop-ups for this function on your browser.

Filter Schedule – Filters the display based on the current user selected criteria

Clear Filters – Clears all filter data and re-displays all current games

The default sort order is by date, then rotation number, but the report can be re-sorted at any time by clicking on any of the column headings.

For example, once the report is displayed, if you were to click on the column heading “Line/Current”, the display would then be sorted ascending by Current Line.  Clicking the same column again would re-sort the field in descending sequence.

Projected Score – The system’s Projected Final Score for the corresponding team

  • If a Total has not yet been released, or the game will have no Total, as is the case in some NCAAB games, a default of 299 is displayed.

Projected –  The system Projected Outcomes for the Money Line and Line shown as FAV, DOG, or PUSH, and the system Projected Outcome for the Total shown as OVER, UNDER or PUSH

  • If a Total has not yet been released, or the game will have no total, as is the case in some NCAAB games, a default of N/A is displayed in the projected total section.

User Note –  Contains Estimated Consensus Public Betting information, as well as a notation if the game is scheduled to be played at a Neutral Site – For MLB games, scheduled starting pitchers are displayed, as well as the current Run Line odds for each team. Additionally, space has been allocated for a user to write in their own notes once the report has been printed.

Use In Conjunction with the SHARP Tool

The SHARP application is a very powerful tool that allows users to research a virtual endless list of “what-if” scenarios.  At a later date, we will post a Blog Entry describing its features in detail.  But for now,  it is worth mentioning since one of its features launches the Select and Print Games function.

Say, for example, while researching using the SHARP application you entered the following query:

  • League = NCAAF
  • Game Type = REGULAR SEASON
  • NEUTRAL SITE = YES
  • TOTAL >= 51
  • Display Results in Terms of Total

You would see that the Under came in at an astounding 76.0%, a real number by the way.

The query would look like this on the screen:

*

Now if you were to click the “FIND CURRENT MATCHES” button, the system will search the current games and return all that match your selection criteria by opening a new window with the data in the format of the Select and Print Games application.

The system finds the games for you.

*

Please note, that while the format of the Select and Print report when launched from the SHARP application  is identical to the stand alone tool, it does not offer any filter capability.  The games returned are strictly those that matched  your current query.  If you submit another query and again click “FIND CURRENT MATCHES”, another new window will open with the corresponding matching games.

If there are no current matches, a message is returned  telling you that your query did not match any current game data.

We hope you have found this informative, and we will be posting another Blog entry regarding the features of our site in a few days.

If you should have any questions, comments, or feedback, please feel free to reach out to us.

Thanks for you time.
